Ron's Navy

Ron's Navy

Ron didn’t do such a good job in school
The class clown just tryin’ to be funny
With an eye for the girls and the heart for a fight
In his pockets he always had money

At sixteen Ron turns himself loose on the world
But he don’t have qualifications
A uniform always impresses the girls
In the Navy he’ll fight for his nation

Chorus:
The gunship leaves Portsmouth, she’s bound for the Gulf
The band plays, the families wave at her
The Captain salutes and the boys proudly wave
From the deck of HMS Lancaster

In the Gulf they encountered a large pirate ship
Their hostage, a billionaire’s daughter
They rescued the girl and the Lancaster blew
The pirate ship out of the water

Ron was just nineteen but he was a man
He’d write home to mum sending letters
Like all sailors he missed old England’s white shores
That just made the comin’ home better

Chorus:
The warm wind blows dust on the Suez Canal
From the banks all the locals wave at her
On the Queen’s ship a smiling young Matelot salutes
From the bridge of HMS Lancaster

Ron was on lookout the moment he saw
The diesel cloud on the horizon
The most dangerous pirate vessel of all
The mother ship they all rely on

The pirates defiantly charged for a fight
At full steam ahead getting faster
She rose from the sea split in two by a shell
From the guns of HMS Lancaster

Chorus:
A cool evening breeze sweeps the Suez Canal
As she heads home the locals wave at her
On old two-two-nine a young Matelot salutes
From the bridge of HMS Lancaster
